This week, I conducted my first interview of the project with Max Blumberg, who offered a great insight into how social media comes into play with regards to estranged family dynamics. It really feels like the project is coming together now and I will continue to conduct further interviews in the coming weeks. You can read all about my interview with Max here.

I have also been working on getting questions ready for my interview with DR. Jason Robinson, a psychologist who specialises in family estrangement, on Tuesday 15th November. I am hoping to grasp an in-depth understanding of how estrangement impacts on an individual’s life, both in the present and in relation to their future. I will also explore with DR. Robinson, how the psychological well-being of the young adult and the parent is affected.

Becca Bland, Chief Executive of Stand Alone, the UK’s leading charity which supports estranged families, has agreed to let me interview her later in the month. I will be going to the charity’s office in London to discuss why she set up the charity and to talk about her own experiences with estrangement. This will be a great contribution to the project as it will give an insight into what is being done to support families/young adults in the UK. I am also in contact with another member of the charity to try and gain access to speaking to a young adult who is estranged from a parent/parents and how social media has played a part in their situation.

I have a busy week ahead as I will be interviewing DR. Jason on Tuesday as previously mentioned, and I will also be speaking to a mother towards the end of the week, who is estranged from her son. This will be quite an emotional interview and the issue is very sensitive, so I will approach the interview in an ethical manner as I do not want to cause any distress.

Remember, you can follow all the progress here on blog, on Twitter and like the projects page on Facebook.
